Chapter Twelve

Cash

We all get up, grabbing fresh beers on the way past the cooler and start to make our way over to where the big crowd is gathered around the fight ring.

“How are the bets coming along?” Rafe signs as the crowd parts for us without us asking anyone to move.

“We’re into the tens of thousands now,” I smirk, looking at the numbers that Trev sent over a few minutes ago.

“Good,” Riot replies with a smile, “who’s fighting?”

I glance down at my phone, trying to remember the names of the fighters. So much has happened in the last couple of days, and I’ve been stretched thin, trying to make sure that everything runs smoothly while Trick deals with the Tomlinson leaders and takes care of that side of things.

Before I can find the answer in my phone, Trick replies, “Derek is fighting from our school, he’s up against a kid called Steve, I don’t really know much about him and there wasn’t any bad blood between them. They’re good fighters, and both requested that they fight; we figured we’d put them up against each other.”

By this point, we’re already at the edge of the ring, and we’ve been watching them for a few minutes. They’re good, and they’re putting on a good show for the crowd, but I don’t think it’s going to last much longer. They’ve both taken a few hits, and they’re starting to slow.

“How long do you give them?” Jensen asks, watching them closely.

“I think maybe ten minutes. If we’re lucky, they’ve been going at it for a while, and I’m actually surprised that they’re both still standing.” Luc replies, his arms crossed over his chest.

I suddenly become aware of a commotion behind us, and we all quickly turn around just in time to see a fucker from our side punch someone from Tomlinson in the face, and it quickly devolves into a full-blown fight. That’s all the encouragement that everyone else needs and a few other people start to join in.

Trick whistles shrilly, gaining the attention of those who look right on the edge of joining the fight; as soon as they all catch sight of us, though, they take a step back—even those from Tomlinson.

“Do you want to break it up?” Riot asks, looking at the fight like he’s bored.

“In a minute, let them get the worst of it out of their system before we step in,” Trick replies.

Trev steps up on our right and asks with his eyebrow raised and a grin on his face, “Boss?”

Trick gives a single nod, “Go ahead.”

“Thanks, boss,” Trev replies, and then raises his voice as he walks through the crowd that’s surrounding the fight, “Alright, ladies and gentlemen, place your bets here. Who's going to win the unsanctioned fight, who's going to get kicked out first, and how long our esteemed leaders are going to let it last before they step in.”

Trev is immediately swarmed by people, waving cash around and yelling out bets. You’d think that he’d
